Legends!

Site news and updates. posted by Dwayne D. Ellis

I would have loved to see this one on the big screen...but had to settle for my 51" plasma. One of the best animated films i have seen.

The effects studio, Animal Logic did such an amazing job.You can read more here and here and here and at the official website here!

Highly recommend seeing it if you have the chance!

Book Cover Image!

Site news and updates. posted by Dwayne D. Ellis

[Update] You can find the book here if you want to buy it online!

This is an exterior rendering that i had been working on in my spare time. The image will be used on the front cover of the upcoming book titled "Revit Architecture Essentials 2012" by Wiley Publishing.
The house and ground were modeled in Revit Architecture...everything else was created in 3ds MAX and rendered in mental ray!

First cover image....pretty cool...though i still would have liked to change a few things!

Awesome Frost!

3ds MAX plugins. posted by Dwayne D. Ellis

I had the great opportunity to test drive the Frost plugin thanks to the great people at Thinkbox Software, while it was still in beta. Although our particular application of the plugin didn't fall under what would be considered the typical or expected use of the plugin it performed amazingly none the less! The amount of time that we've saved incorporating it into our pipeline is huge...i'm not talking minutes...i'm talking hours! As with most other plugins, we wanted to push it to see when...or if...it would break! So i gave it the worst case scenario to see what would happen. Two high resolution scans from a Faro 120 that were aligned and that's it! No filtering, noise reduction or point cleanup of any kind!!! I just wanted to see what the performance would be like...speed and quality. Below are the stats from the log window, which i think speak for themselves.

  • STS: Statistics for frame 0.000 (Frost001)
  • STS: Particle count: 81708524
  • STS: Face count: 39286516
  • STS: Vertex count: 19622832
  • STS: Update time [s]: 138.268

The machine specs were:

  • Alienware Aurora
  • Intel I7 Six core @3.33GHz
  • 24GB of RAM
  • Dual Nvidia GeForce GTX 460
  • Windows 7 (64bit)

I hope to post some of our complete projects soon! So come back often!

The first blog post of many!

Site news and updates. posted by Dwayne D. Ellis

After a long and difficult task of customizing and learning "web stuff"...the site is finally functional, albeit somewhat incomplete! I normally wouldn't upload the site while incomplete but now that the nuts and bolts are in place...the content can be more easily updated and everything will be as it should very shortly.
Please check back often as i will be adding quite a bit of content in the next little while.

And one more!

A wood style render done for fun using the GH House visualization challenge model from Ronen Bekermans site!
